About the author

PACT (Participation, Acknowledgement, Commitment, and Transformation) builds peace and hope in our urban and rural communities

We do this by helping youth reach their full potential in life through strategic partnerships with the police, courts, probation, schools and other youth-focused agencies and community partners.

The PACT Urban Peace Program is an award-winning, outcome-driven and cost conscious registered Canadian charity dedicated to working with, supporting and empowering underserved, marginalized and at-risk young people, as well as youth already in conflict with the law. PACT has a grassroots beginning and a social entrepreneurial approach. To that end, PACT believes it is the community’s responsibility to provide the best programs at the earliest stages to create and maintain peaceful and safe environments.

PACT is almost entirely privately funded through generous businesses, foundations, service clubs and individuals.

A look at our amazing accomplishments in 2014!

December 11, 2014

A Message from David Lockett, PACT Urban Peace President & Co-Founder

I’d like to start off by first thanking everyone who joined in helping to make 2014 an incredible year of growth, transformation and kindness at PACT. With the generosity of private donors, countless volunteers and corporate sponsors, we’ve been able to make a tremendous impact in the lives of the youth and communities we serve.

One of our biggest achievements this year has been the opening of the Jean Augustine Centre for Young Women’s Empowerment - a place for young women and their children to heal, learn and grow. In an effort to continue to meet the challenges of so many young women in our community, we plan to add new LifeSkills classes in 2015, integrated with cognitive therapy and life coaching - both very powerful programs.

Our Grow-to-Learn Schoolyard Gardens also saw tremendous growth this year, welcoming thousands of TDSB students to take part in hands-on, experiential learning activities. As well as introducing many children in marginalized neighbourhoods to nature and harvesting, we donated over 15,000 lbs of fresh, organic food to local food banks!

Our award-winning LifePlan Coaching program for the most at-risk youth in conflict with the law saw great success in 2014, with over 60% of participants completing the program, not re-offending and changing their life paths. For 2015, we are expanding the program to include life coaching for young women and also integrating it into our new high school co-op partnership with the TDSB.

Through the kindness of so many, we have been fortunate to increase our reach this past year, helping to break the cycle of teen pregnancy, crime and poverty, and hope to continue to grow throughout 2015. Our goals for the coming year include providing meals for 1,000 needy people each month, adding more Advanced LifeSkills training programs and building a 100ft greenhouse which will allow us to grow tropical fruits.  As well, we are in the process of finalizing a new secure and scalable online life coaching system, that has been in development for two years, that will enhance the life coaching process to better serve our clients.

In order to continue to reach the youth who can most benefit from PACT, we need your support and ask you to consider making a donation or consider the gift of monthly giving. Private donors fund our operating costs so 100% of your donations go straight into programming.
