I Support Amber Alerts

February 18, 2019

Reaction to the recent amber alert disturbed me.

With the introduction of the amber alert function across the province, we received a warning on our smart phone of the impending tornadoes that swept through Ottawa this past summer. I don’t think anyone in the Ottawa area at least thought this was an inconvenience. A couple of days ago, our phone informed us of a police search for a missing young girl that sadly had a tragic ending. It was therefore disappointing to hear that several people were upset that they had received this alert, because apparently it had occurred late in the evening, it had no direct affect on them, it was unnecessary and unwanted. Some may have even been awaken by the unique sound coming from their phone. Sorry, I can't feel any sympathy for such peolple. Am I the only person that leaves my cell phone in another room when I go to sleep?
