Quebec, Newfoundland and Labrador reach agreement on Churchill Falls project

An agreement has been reached between the governments of Quebec and Newfoundland and Labrador on a new contract for the massive hydroelectric project, two sources say.Details of the agreement are being kept under wraps but one of the sources described it as a good deal for Newfoundland, which has been locked in a decades-long dispute with Quebec to get a better agreement for electric power under a deal signed in 1969.
As Canadians take time off to celebrate the holidays, many federal offices, stores and businesses will be closed across the country on Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

Prime Minister Trudeau likely had high hopes that he could simply fire Chrystia Freeland and quickly slide Mark Carney in to replace her as finance minister. Carney has long been sought after by the Liberal party as its potential leader. That plan failed miserably, with Trudeau having to get close friend Dominic LeBlanc to be finance minister.
