Over the past 20 years, the city has systematically implemented initiatives that ensure the decline of the ByWard Market. This has resulted in the loss of a once-thriving farmers’ market; the loss of most food retail stores; and the loss of small boutiques and service retail stores that make a successful 15-minute neighbourhood. In effect, since amalgamation, which gave rural and suburban councillors majority power on council, the city’s lack of progressive leadership has led to a strategy of failure for its downtown. The B.C. Supreme Court has ordered WestJet to hand over all its files on harassment of flight attendants, in a class-action lawsuit alleging widespread misconduct by pilots.The ruling by Justice Jacqueline Hughes says WestJet has been slow and “potentially adversarial” regarding the documents and it’s unclear why complaint files haven’t been produced in a timely manner.The underlying claim in the long-running lawsuit, filed in 2016, alleges WestJet breached flight attendants’ contracts by breaking a “promise” to provide a harassment-free workplace.
