A Pakistani man arrested in Quebec for an alleged plot to kill Jews in New York has been transferred to a provincial detention centre in Montreal from Rimouski, Que.Muhammad Shahzeb Khan, who appeared in Quebec Superior Court this morning, was transferred to the jail in the city’s east end on Thursday, but his lawyer says he hasn’t yet been able to review court documents with his client in person.
Venne, born in Lamont, Alta., was one of the first appointees to Alberta's Human Rights Commission in 1973 and later served as chair.

The City of Colwood has an unusual problem: Years into a national family-doctor shortage, the B.C. community just west of Victoria is overwhelmed with expressions of interest from physicians.The city, which has a population of roughly 20,000, announced this month that it had hired its first family physician under a municipal funding model. Under this program, doctors will receive paid vacation and parental leave, medical benefits and a defined pension from the municipal pension plan as city employees do.
