B.C. village mourns death of 2 longtime residents in landslide

Barbara and David Enns were residents of Lions Bay, B.C., for several decades until they died last weekend in a landslide, says the village's mayor.
Over the past few months, I’ve written about a couple of homeless Ottawans: Thomas Cavasos, who, with his cat, Phoenix, can typically be found in his wheelchair at the northwest corner of Elgin and Lisgar streets; and Frances de Silva, who was living in a canoe on the Rideau Canal when I first met her. A subsequent story I wrote about her canoe being stolen ended with the kindheartedness of some readers who offered to gift her a new canoe. She currently lives in a tent along the Rideau River. There’s a rustic little wooden fence around Lee and Tammy’s home that might be cute if it weren’t for a couple of things: their “home” is a tent they’ve purposely hidden in a thicket in Gloucester, and the stick fence that Lee built is there to provide a barrier between the couple and the coyotes they hear at night.
