Can big things get built in Toronto? The Hearn Generating Station suggests they can. This 20th-century behemoth in Toronto’s port lands lit millions of homes. Mammoth turbines spun up energy in a 300-metre-long hall of brick, steel and extra-hard concrete.Now, the Hearn faces a new chapter – this time as a development site, and maybe as a cultural gathering place. Last week, the City of Toronto publicized a proposal for the Hearn from Vaughan-based developers Cortel Group.
