Hour 1 of Ottawa Now for Mon. January 6th, 2025

January 6, 2025
Pierre-Elliott Trudeau strolled through a run-of-the-mill Canadian blizzard on February 28th, 1984. This journey evolved into his iconic ‘walk in the snow’, as he would head to Parliament Hill and submit his resignation. Almost 41 years later, Canadians were calling for his son to do the exact same thing. This weekend, he did just that. This morning, he resigned. But now that Justin Trudeau is out of the picture, and Parliament is now prorogued until late-March, Canada is in a vulnerable spot as the Trump tariffs loom large. So what happens next? Canadian author Charles-Etienne Beaudry glances into an incoming period of turbulence for the country. Speaking of those American tariffs, Ontario’s Premier is hoping that Justin Trudeau isn’t backing down on his promises to keep Canadian Premiers informed about Trump’s plans. He says he was promised a meeting with Trudeau and he still expects one. CFRA’s Chris Holski has more on that.
