Ontario imposes 25% surcharge on electricity exports to U.S.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford says he has applied a 25-per-cent surcharge to all of his province’s electricity exports to the U.S. in retaliation for President Donald Trump’s tariffs – and once again warned he could cut off all Ontario power headed south of the border.“President Trump’s tariffs are a disaster for the U.S. economy. They’re making life more expensive for American families and businesses,” Mr. Ford said in a press release distributed on Monday. “Until the threat of tariffs is gone for good, Ontario won’t back down. We’ll stand strong, use every tool in our toolkit and do whatever it takes to protect Ontario.”
