Pension-fund manager Jean Campeau assisted in the emergence of Quebec Inc.

Jean Campeau, the understated pension-fund manager who became a key architect of the Quebec government’s activist role in the economy that changed the face of the province’s business community, has died at the age of 93.As president and chief executive of Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec from 1980 to 1990, Mr. Campeau managed billions of dollars of funds on behalf of Quebec pensioners, retired teachers and civil servants and a slew of provincial agencies.
