Two Globe and Mail journalists have received the Canadian Hillman Prize for Journalism for their investigation into the Canada Food Inspection Agency’s deeply flawed system for identifying inspection priorities, which led to three avoidable deaths.Grant Robertson and Kathryn Blaze Baum won in the print/digital category for their work on The Algorithm, which detailed how the CFIA’s move to increasingly let many food manufacturers in Canada police themselves under a new method of oversight contributed to a deadly listeria contamination at a facility that had gone five years without inspection.
