Manitoba NDP wins byelection to keep Winnipeg seat held by ex-education minister

The Manitoba NDP has won a provincial by-election to hold onto the east Winnipeg riding of Transcona.The by-election was held to fill the seat formerly held by Nello Altomare, the Manitoba education minister who died in January.Shannon Corbett, a vice-principal, won for the New Democrats with more than 3,600 votes.
Scott Armstrong, Minister of Opportunities and Social Development, travelled to DC for President Trump's inauguration. He said it was to advocate for Nova Scotian jobs.

I have heard (possibly from myself) that Prime Minister Mark Carney named a “caretaker cabinet” last Friday. The caretaker terminology is fair enough in casual parlance, insofar as Carney’s ministers are presumably holding down the fort until an election takes place and either Carney himself or another party leader forms a new government.
