University of Toronto names Melanie Woodin as school’s first-ever female president

The University of Toronto has named neuroscientist Melanie Woodin, the current dean of arts and science, to be its next president. She will be the university’s 17th president and the first woman to hold the job.She will succeed Meric Gertler, who has served in the role for more than 11 years, on July 1. The announcement was made Wednesday morning at a meeting of the university’s governing council.
