Read your story & it definitely struck a cord as I'm 75, divirced & have no company pension.  Thankfully, I do own my small 780 ' home.  For extra income I operate an Airbnb out of my finished basement.  The easiest answer to your situation would be to drop the private insurance coverage your employer is providing.  You would then be eligble (unless your total income is over the maximum allowable of $90k+ in your province).  Is this not an option you could pursue?

That would not work.

Under the current rules, you are ineligible for the Canada Dental Plan if your employer offers dental benefits, even if you do not participate in the plan.
