Alberta replacing top public health official as province deals with measles outbreak

Alberta is without a chief medical officer of health as outbreaks of measles hit all regions of the province.Alberta Health, in a statement Tuesday, said Mark Joffe’s contract expired Monday. Premier Danielle Smith, in November, 2022, appointed Dr. Joffe to the role after firing Deena Hinshaw, who shepherded the province through the COVID-19 pandemic.

Police say the search for a man who went missing after swimming at Vancouver’s Wreck Beach has been stood down after the discovery of body earlier today in the water on the shores of Third Beach.Mounties say the body matches the description of the missing Wreck Beach swimmer, but his identity has not yet been fully confirmed.Police say the detachment that serves the area around the University of British Columbia got a call about a distressed swimmer at the popular clothing-optional beach on Thursday afternoon.
