Manitoba Premier declares state of emergency near Whiteshell Provincial Park over wildfires

May 15, 2025
Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew is declaring a state of emergency near Whiteshell Provincial Park, south of where two people were killed because of an out-of-control wildfire this week, urging residents not to ignite any campfires across the province.More than 1,000 Manitobans have been evacuated from their homes, as the province contends with 21 active wildfires burning in multiple areas, with a total of 80 recorded this season – nearly double the 20-year average of 48 fires for this time of the year.
