Canada will host more than a dozen world leaders at the Group of Seven summit in Kananaskis, Alta., starting on Sunday, with several pressing issues at stake both on and off the agenda.There are seven member states in the informal grouping of some of the world’s most advanced economies, and five have new leaders since last year, including Canada. But in addition to those nations, the host also typically invites leaders from other countries and organizations to shape discussions and encourage global co-operation.
Prime Minister Mark Carney is expected to hold a one-on-one meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump at the Group of Seven Summit Monday – an opportunity for the two men to make progress on resolving a damaging three-month trade war. The Prime Minister’s Office told reporters about the meeting on Sunday. The G7 summit is taking place in the Rocky Mountain resort of Kananaskis, Alta.

KANANASKIS, Alta. — It’s an odd thing to be asked your business in your own country, in your own province, in an area where you’ve spent plenty of time hiking and climbing and skiing.
A place where the whole purpose is to be free — or at least freer than in the city.
You expect these questions going through customs or at checkpoints in less salubrious parts of the world. But not necessarily out on a gravel backroad in Kananaskis, Alta.

Police in Gatineau are investigating the deaths of two people of carbon monoxide poisoning Saturday night. Gatineau firefighters were called to a residence on Boulevard Wilfrid-Lavigne in the Aylmer district just after 7 p.m. The victims were found deceased. The investigation was taken over by police. Police have released no further details.
