Two sexual assault charges against Alberta spiritual leader John de Ruiter stayed by Crown

The Crown has stayed two sexual assault charges against prominent Alberta spiritual leader John de Ruiter, The Globe and Mail has learned.
Michelle Davio, a spokesperson with Alberta Crown Prosecution Service, confirmed that one count of sexual assault was stayed in February, and a second count was stayed on Monday.
The two women victimized by James Bowie said the former criminal defence lawyer "weaponized" his position of trust and friendship for his own personal gratification. Read More

Police say 11 people face charges after an investigation into drug trafficking in Mississauga that allegedly involved exchanging stolen baby formula and other products for drugs. Peel Regional Police say the four-month investigation, dubbed Project Bengal, revealed an organized crime group responsible for trafficking of drugs and thefts from retail businesses in the city’s Meadowvale area.Investigators say suspects were allegedly stealing high-demand baby products, including formula and vitamins, to exchange them for drugs.

OTTAWA — When Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Quebec Premier François Legault faced reporters last week, some grinning and nervous laughter ensued when both men were asked why their two provinces could not come to a bilateral agreement on internal trade.
