Vulnerable people lack access to cooling, advocates say, as heat warnings persist

Another day of punishing heat and humidity in Ontario, Quebec and the four Atlantic provinces is shedding light on the situation for vulnerable Canadians who struggle to access cooling.
Heat warnings from Environment Canada stretch from the country’s western to eastern coasts today, with temperatures expected to reach the low to mid-30s and humidex values at around 40 C.
A Canadian Armed Forces soldier who was reported missing on Tuesday, and was the subject of a search by Latvian, Canadian and NATO officials, has been found dead.

It’s been six years since a Canadian premier led a trade mission to China. Much like Alberta Premier Danielle Smith’s forays into Washington, D.C., to shore up oil exports there, Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe is heading to China this weekend. It’s expected he’ll wave the province’s flag in support of improved market access for Saskatchewan’s bumper crop of canola.
It’s a tricky situation for the premier to navigate. Trade friction with and between its largest markets — China and the U.S. — has put Canadian canola in the crosshairs.
