British Columbia’s core public service union has launched strike action, hoping to force a labour-friendly but debt-swamped government to more than double its wage offer in contract talks.
A segment of the B.C. General Employees’ Union’s 34,000 public sector workers walked off the job on Tuesday, and union president Paul Finch promised to escalate job action if the provincial government doesn’t return to the bargaining table with a better offer.
The B.C.-based Syilx Okanagan Nation is calling the lawsuits 'disappointing,' saying it is the rights and title holder for that region.

OTTAWA — Work is underway for an upcoming review on whether the tariffs Canada applied to China’s electric vehicles, steel and aluminum should remain at the current rates, the federal finance minister’s office has confirmed.
A spokeswoman for François Philippe-Champagne says imports of these Chinese products “have declined significantly since their imposition,” adding that the government had committed to review these surtaxes one year after they were implemented last October.
