Ottawa Now - Grading the effectiveness of photo radar cameras

September 10, 2025

Some of Ontario’s municipalities have embraced speed enforcement cameras, particularly in school zones. Every year, they are becoming more and more common. But in the eyes of Ontario’s Premier, they are a tax grab, and he wants Ontario municipalities to scrap them. If they refuse, Doug Ford will give them a polite political nudge himself. How effective are these speed cameras at slowing down traffic in kid-friendly neighbourhoods? Once today’s drivers have passed through a school zone, do they speed up again? CTV’s Tyler Fleming, with a radar gun in hand, put this theory to the test in various areas that doesn’t have speed cameras. He joins Kristy Cameron with his findings on today’s Ottawa Now.
