Hour 3 of Ottawa Now for Thurs. September 11th, 2025

September 11, 2025

Ottawa City Council is trying to cap the size of its municipal public service. During Wednesday’s gathering at City Hall, Rideau-Jock councillor David Brown put forward a motion to set that magic cap at 17,105 employees, which passed 14 to 10. Paramedics, firefighters, and bylaw services would be exempt from this rule. Requests for exemptions are also being made for Ottawa Police, OC Transpo, Ottawa Public Library, Ottawa Public Health, long-term care positions, and childcare positions. Do you agree with a cap number, and how big (or small) should it be? Kristy Cameron sifts through the CFRA textboard and tackles today’s Question of the Day. Turning our attention to Algonquin College, parents of adult students with special needs are holding a rally this afternoon to save the AAADD Program. We speak to Eric Burgin, who is one of the rally organizers, in Hour 3. Plus, it’s a Thursday afternoon, which means it’s time to tackle your gardening questions with gardening expert Carson Arthur! And as the final days of Summer play out, it’s the perfect time to build your ‘Fall Garden’.
