Cull of B.C. ostriches temporarily halted by Supreme Court

Karen Espersen and Katie Pasitney, the mother and daughter at the centre of a movement to save their flock of 400 ostriches from a cull order, hear the Supreme Court of Canada had granted a last-minute stay, sparing the birds for now.
The B.C. NDP’s efforts to align the Heritage Conservation Act with its commitments to Indigenous peoples have been met with an outcry from municipal and business leaders who fear it will grind development to a halt.The “transformation project” is the government’s second attempt in as many years to work jointly with First Nations to change land-use legislation. This is being done to meet the government’s binding commitment to implement the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).

Searchers scouring mountainous terrain in southern Alberta for a missing six-year-old boy said Friday more help is on the way and that they’re not losing hope he’ll be found.Adam Kennedy from Alberta Search and Rescue told a virtual news conference that 120 people, including trained volunteers, are on the ground in the Crowsnest Pass, looking for Darius Macdougall.
