Hour 2 of Ottawa Now for Thurs. October 2nd, 2025

October 2, 2025

Back in 2019, the Ford government gave Ontario municipalities permission to use speed cameras. Six years later, it’s attempting to ban those cameras, whether it’s the easy way or the hard way. However, a city councillor in Brampton isn’t throwing in the towel without a fight. Rowena Santos joins Kristy Cameron after her motion unanimously passed at Brampton City Council. Later in Hour 2, we hear from Beacon Hill-Cyrville councillor Tim Tierney, as he hopes for a similar pushback in Canada’s Capital. Meantime, obesity has been a worldwide problem for many years. Tuesday’s fraud convictions of a former senior hospital executive and a former Toronto construction boss were the culmination of a four-year police investigation and 24 days of court testimony. But for The Globe and Mail, the St. Michael’s Hospital procurement scandal began more than a decade ago with the delivery of four brown envelopes. In June, 2015, four Globe journalists received identical letters in their mail slots urging reporters to ask questions about a recent decision by St. Michael’s and Infrastructure Ontario to award a $300-million contract to Bondfield Construction Co. Ltd...
