Verdict in alleged fraud case involving hospital project to determine fate of two accused

An Ontario court judge presiding over the criminal trial of two men facing fraud charges stemming from the $300-million redevelopment of Toronto’s St. Michael’s Hospital will announce his verdict Tuesday.
Vas Georgiou, a former chief administrative officer of St. Michael’s, and John Aquino, the former president of Bondfield Construction Co. Ltd., are each charged with two counts of fraud over $5,000. Both men have pleaded not guilty.
The trial of a former bouncer accused of killing a patron outside a Halifax bar on Christmas Eve of 2022 began Monday with videos shown of the fight that preceded the young man’s death.Alexander Pishori Levy has pleaded not guilty to manslaughter and criminal negligence causing the death of 31-year-old Ryan Sawyer, opting for a judge-only trial in the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia.
