If you are taking part in Halloween trick-or-treating this year, the biggest fright of the night might be the price of a chocolate bar. Recent figures from Stats Canada showcase a 28.8 percent price increase for confectionery items, observed between August 2021 and August 2025. Over the past year alone, that increase was a staggering 6.3 percent. So as we head into the Halloween season, how super-scary is that price tag going to be? Kristy Cameron tries to gauge the situation with Mike Von Massow on today’s Ottawa Now. He is a Professor of Food, Agricultural, and Resource Economics at the University of Guelph.

For 150 years, judges of the Supreme Court of Canada have donned distinctive red robes trimmed with white fur – a judicial fashion whose earliest threads stretch back through centuries of British history to the reign of King Edward III in the 1300s.But that changed this week. As part of the Supreme Court’s 150th anniversary this year, Chief Justice Richard Wagner and his colleagues on the country’s apex court debuted a new formal fashion for special occasions.
