Ottawa Now - Downtown councillor concerned that Mayor Sutcliffe's Lansdowne 2.0 numbers don't add up

October 20, 2025

The Lansdowne 2.0 project is moving toward a final decision at Ottawa City Hall. And earlier today, Ottawa’s Mayor delivered an update on the redevelopment and construction approval plan. Mark Sutcliffe said taxpayers should be encouraged by this announcement, applauding the project as a good return-on-investment. The annual price tag to Ottawa’s taxpayers has dropped down to $4.3 million, which was originally projected to be $5 million annually as of 2023. A new 5,500 seat event centre and North Side stand installation at TD Place will now cost $313 million, and the full construction project value now sits at $418 million. However, a Downtown city councillor isn’t buying the hype or the decreased expenses, as Capital Ward councillor Shawn Menard fears that Sutcliffe’s numbers don’t add up. Menard joins Kristy Cameron on today’s Ottawa Now.

It is Wednesday night at the Lion’s Gate banquet hall in Barrie, Ont., an hour north of Toronto. He grips one of his Viper-brand beanbags, draws his arm back, plants his foot and throws, putting a slight spin on the bag to guide its trajectory. It lands on the board with a satisfying thump, slides forward and disappears – plop – through the hole. “Nice bag, Mike,” says a competitor.

NEW YORK — Twenty-four years ago, a murderous yet methodical squadron of Islamic terrorists tore out the beating heart of New York City in the name of their particular understanding of God. On Nov. 4, it is likely that a beaming, bearded young Muslim from the far left flank of American politics — a card-carrying Democratic Socialist, no less — will be elected as the 111th mayor (all of them men) of the capital of capitalism, riding a pita-in-the-sky cyclone of no-fare transit, cheap apartments, discount groceries and anti-Zionist rage from the river (Hudson) to the sea (Atlantic) and...
