Alberta teachers and students return to school after back-to-work order

It felt like the first day of school all over again in Alberta Wednesday as teachers and students filed into schools that have sat empty for nearly four weeks owing to the teachers’ strike that was forcefully ended by the provincial government earlier this week.
The scene outside Wîhkwêntôwin School in inner-city Edmonton was like any other school day. Children held their parents’ hands as they took cover under umbrellas from the rain. Tucked in their jackets, kids yelled, “Love you, Mom,” as they ran inside.
With just days to go until the Liberal government introduces its much-anticipated federal budget, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre won’t say whether his party will strike down the legislation — instead insisting he needs to read the document before deciding.
