B.C. won’t run ads targeting U.S. homeowners after Ontario backlash

November 3, 2025

The B.C. government has scrapped plans for digital advertisements aimed at U.S. homeowners after Ontario’s anti-tariff ad campaign on American television triggered a backlash from U.S. President Donald Trump.

The new digital ad campaign had been planned by the B.C. government for the United States, focusing on increased costs for American home construction and renovation projects as well as highlighting how Canada faces much higher import taxes on softwood lumber compared with Russia.
