Investigators in California say a Calgary man is dead and his five-year-old daughter is missing after the pair were swept off the shoreline by a tall ocean wave on Garrapata State Beach.

The Alberta Union of Provincial Employees announced just after 9 a.m. on Saturday that its members will no longer be on strike after a tentative deal was reached for nursing-care workers.

Nearly two decades ago, a cave regarded as a sacred site by the Songhees Nation was destroyed to make way for the Bear Mountain resort development near Victoria.
