Lost Canadians bill clears Senate, on track to becoming law

The “Lost Canadians” legislation, which aims to fix Canada’s unconstitutional citizenship by descent rules, passed in the Senate Wednesday and is on track to becoming law.
The term “Lost Canadians” refers to people who were born outside of the country to Canadian parents who were also born in another country.
A central question throughout the weeks-long trial for Brandy Cooney and Becky Hamber of Burlington, Ont., has been why, in the last year of his life, 12-year-old L.L. was so severely malnourished. The Crown argues they were intentionally restricting what the boy ate.

All major highways connecting British Columbia’s Lower Mainland and Interior remained closed Thursday morning after heavy rainfall triggered flood warnings and evacuations in the south of the province. In Abbotsford, which declared a local state of emergency Wednesday night, 371 properties in Sumas Prairie West were ordered to evacuate. Evacuation alerts have been issued for Sumas Prairie East and Clayburn Village. All schools in the Fraser-Cascade School District, as well as Semá:th Elementary, are closed on Thursday.
