Alberta Premier Danielle Smith facing petition to lose seat

December 10, 2025

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith will have to fight to keep her seat in the legislature after a recall petition was approved by Elections Alberta on Wednesday, making her the latest target of citizens using the United Conservative Party’s own legislation to voice their anger with the government.

The petitioner, Heather Van Snick, said in her application that Ms. Smith is no longer fit to serve her constituency of Brooks-Medicine Hat because she doesn’t live in the community and “has shown little effort to understand the people she was elected to represent.”
