The number of Canadians working in the public sector has been a hot topic since the COVID-19 pandemic took hold, as the public sector has accounted for a disproportionately large share of net job gains compared with its share of total employment.
Over the past decade, 33.4 per cent of all new employment has been in the public sector. Today, public employees make up 21.7 per cent of the national work force, one of the highest levels in more than three decades, excluding a brief spike early in the pandemic.
Saskatoon-based Pisim Power is proposing an Indigenous-led project through the northern part of the Prairie provinces with equity participation in mind.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford says that his Labour Minister will co-operate with an Integrity Commissioner probe into the minister’s handling of the province’s $2.5-billion Skills Development Fund – but was silent about his future in cabinet. The office of Integrity Commissioner Cathryn Motherwell confirmed late Thursday that Labour Minister David Piccini will face an investigation prompted by opposition complaints alleging he violated ethics rules in selecting recipients for the fund, which hands out cash to unions, employers and other organizations for training programs.
