Police officer shot in Welland, Ont., public asked to shelter in place

December 19, 2025

A shelter-in-place order has been issued in Welland, Ont., where police say an officer has been shot and a suspect has been contained inside a building.

Niagara regional police say the officer has been sent to hospital as a precaution and their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A spokesperson says the officer was responding this morning to reports of a shooting near Second Street and Plymouth Road.
