The City of Ottawa is mulling over the potential purchase of a private landfill in the East End. According to city staff members, it’s a rare opportunity to help address Ottawa’s future garbage disposal dilemma. And earlier today, the Finance and Corporate Services Committee held a vote, with 8 of 11 voters voting in favour. However, as one might expect, the project’s biggest critics are raising a big stink about Friday’s outcome. Lucie Régimbald is the Vice-President of the Capital Region Citizens Coalition for Environment Protection. She explains why she is giving this idea a major thumbs-down.

For the second time this month, mezuzahs affixed to the doorways of Jewish homes in Toronto have been stolen in what police say they are investigating as a potential hate crime.
Just after noon on Dec. 25, the Toronto Police Service was notified of four mezuzahs that were taken from door frames for four condo units in a building on Bayview in the suburban neighbourhood of North York.
