Hour 3 of Ottawa Now for Fri. February 27th, 2026

February 27, 2026

New York City has started to pay residents $30 per hour to shovel sidewalks and bus stops. The municipality says they’ve been doing this for decades, but the recent pay upgrade has brought a lot of attention to this initiative. Is this an idea that Canada's Capital should get behind? Joining us with his perspective in Hour 3 is Joshua Goodman. He is the Deputy Commissioner for Public Affairs and Customer Experience at the New York City Department of Sanitation. Then, we pick your brain on the CFRA textboard, as Kristy Cameron tackles today’s Question of the Day. Circling back to one of today’s top stories, five new areas in Canada’s Capital have been designated as ‘community hazard zones’ by the OSTA. One of these new areas is located in Lowertown, and is represented at City Hall by Rideau-Vanier councillor Stephanie Plante. She is proud to see that this long-standing request in her ward is finally being addressed, but adds that the conversation should go beyond the simple steps.

Quebec registered the highest rate of medical assistance in dying, or MAID, by any jurisdiction in the world, contributing 36.3 percent of medically assisted deaths that occurred in the country. If one were to classify MAID as a cause of death in Canada, in 2024 it would have been the fourth after cancer, heart conditions, and accidents, and ahead of cerebrovascular diseases. Consistent with...

Where the seedling body, wearing a smock or a backwards old dress shirt, makes a map: two wells of colour in an egg carton, glossed paper, thick-handled brush. Start with a burst of solar egg, streak with sea. That clotted bloom of overlap, beheld —duckweed, algae, moss—paint’s a skin and then it’s a sinking dream for the gaze. Verdant island blotting at the shores, and the grass is nowhere greener, nowhere is it greener than this place. The post Wish You Were Here first appeared on The Walrus.
