Champlain Oaks event Dec. 21: People and Trees

December 11, 2013

Bur oaks, Samuel de Champlain, and the Cowley family!

Special event Dec. 21 @ 11 a.m. in the Champlain Park Field House (Cowley Avenue at Clearview in Westboro, Ottawa).

Unveiling of two installations that celebrate the links between trees and people in Champlain Park (Kitchissippi).

The outdoor installation features a cross-section from an ancient bur oak cut in 2011 to make way for infill on Northwestern Avenue. An indoor installation presents a timeline of important events in our community’s natural and social history.

Both of these permanent installations sponsored by the City of Ottawa celebrate our community’s unique links to a riverboat captain, Daniel Keyworth Cowley.

Kitchissippi councillor Katherine Hobbs will unveil the installations and kick off the festivities.

Local genealogist, Christine Jackson, and members of Captain Cowley's family will be on hand with pictures and stories.

Families and friends are welcome!
