He is now an Executive Fellow at the School of Public Policy at the University of Calgary and a Distinguished Fellow at the Queen’s University School of Public Policy where he does research on evidence-based policy.
WHAT: Talk and reception with Dr. Munir Sheikh
WHEN: April 3rd, 2014. 5:00pm - 6:30pm
WHERE: Desmarais Building, Room 12102, University of Ottawa
Notes: Event is free. Register here and join the Facebook event here.
Abstract:
Public policy can contribute to enhancing our quality of life but only if it is evidence-based. Professor Sheikh’s talk will concentrate on examples intended to drive home this point: two examples on the need to do better on developing evidence; two on using evidence appropriately. With respect to the first set of examples, the talk will focus on the cancellation of the long form census and estimating the true size of government. Regarding the use of evidence, examples will include the design of pollution taxes and policies focused on the middle class.
I hope you can make it!
