Minister Joly, don't reduce the Sir John A Macdonald Parkway to two lanes

Dear Minister Joly,

I am writing today regarding a March 23, 2016 National Capital Commission (NCC) document entitled A Plan for the Sir John A Macdonald Parkway Waterfront Linear Park. In this document, one of the proposed options is to reduce the Parkway to just two lanes from four.

Over 9,300 vehicles use the Parkway every day. This is a vital route for Ottawa commuters coming into the core from Nepean, Bells Corners, Kanata, Barrhaven, and Stittsville. It allows people in the west end to avoid the over-subscribed Highway 417 between Pinecrest Road and downtown. Quebec motorists also cross the Champlain Bridge and take the Parkway to get to work.

Your government has promised enormous expenditures to build, not delete, infrastructure. Removing driving lanes runs at cross-purposes to this goal.

In conclusion, please insist that the National Capital Commission maintain four lanes as part of all of its future planning for the Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway.
