Motion M-86 Citizens’ Assembly on Electoral Reform will be voted in February

Many people asked me why reform the electoral system when we already have a democratic system? This article says it well:

“Why consider reforming our electoral system? Simply because there are obvious signs that our democracy in Canada is not as strong as it might be. Low voter turnout (getting worse, it seems, with almost every election), mistrust in our institutions — in governments, in particular — polarization, and hostile partisan politics are of deep concern to many in this country and in this community.”

Yes, all good points, but i believe the most pressing issue is the disenfrancisement of the majority of Canadians.   We know that our federal elections are decided before votes west of Ontario are even tabulated.  When our elections result in near absolute power and control with less then 39% of Canadians voting for the 'winner', thats 60% of Canadians who are without representation.  In the last election, trudeau 'won' the election with less then 25% of eligible voters voting for him.  Canadians have lost much of their control over their lives, evidenced by the unfettered, irresponsible federal govt random laws since 2019 which saw our bank accounts frozen, censorship for anyone who doesnt agree with the govt, and a dysfunctional parliamentary system without meaningful opposition protecting canadians.
