On June 4th the Ottawa Centre candidates met for a community debate. Many important topics came up and the community groups that hosted the event did a fantastic job of putting on the event.
Current MPP and Liberal Cabinet Minister Yasir Naqvi told those in the room that our hydro rates will not be going down. Responding to a direct question from a local business owner about hydro rates and the direct effect on food security for businesses operating in the food supply chain Mr. Naqvi confirmed what we have long known, the Liberals have no plan to reduce energy cost in Ontario.
Mr. Naqvi made a veiled attempt at praising the business owners Jamaican patties as the best in town, they may very well be the best in town (I will need to visit first) but what was lost in the answer from Mr. Naqvi is the confirmation our hydro rates will not go down, the high prices are here to stay.
This is unacceptable, at a time when our province is losing private sector jobs and investment because the cost of doing business in Ontario is too high, throwing in the towel and saying that’s it, we can’t do anything about the prices is unacceptable.
Mr. Naqvi made an attempt to explain the cost increase by saying the Ontario Liberals have invested $20 billion dollars in infrastructure upgrades; this is all fine, if that was the whole picture. What Mr. Naqvi didn’t mention was the negative effect their Green Energy Act has had on our province, the fact Mr. Naqvi thinks it’s smart to subsidize those that produce energy on a per kilowatt per hour rate instead of subsidizing one time instillation cost furthers the point the Liberals are not fit to govern our province.
If the Liberals are re-elected things are going to get worse before they ever get better. You have a choice on June 12th, you can choose change, you can vote for an honest government, one that respects taxpayer’s money and will lower your hydro rates, or you can vote for more of the same but I would urge you to vote for Rob Dekker on June 12th in Ottawa Centre.
