PM picks up $300,000 tab for visitors 1-way trip back to France

October 2, 2014

When I saw this news item, it was another case of me shouting at the tv. How long do we have to endure this lack of accountability by the present government. Oh ya, election in 2015.

Maybe it is the new math. Maybe I just don't get it.

A quick search of flights to Paris shows that I can get a one way ticket, in business/first class Ottawa-Paris for $7659. So, if we are talking 2 people, and even if I have to add taxes, I can get two adults to Europe for well under $20,000.

So, why did the Prime Minister's office spend $300,000 to get two European visitors bact to Europe?

It was nice for the PM to ask them to stay over for a special reception (read photo op), and of course it was gracious to offer to pay for any inconveniences this change of plans might involve (hotel stay, rebooking flight, etc.). But, $300,000? Really?

I thought we were being more vigilant about unecessary travel  expenses for senators and MPs. I thought the buck, in this case 300,000 bucks, stopped at the PMO.

Oh Canada!
