Dear Ottawa residents,
We're only a few weeks away from our Rally for the Rideau River on September 29th, and we want to encourage you to be there. It will be a major opportunity to demonstrate our opposition to the plans by TransCanada to build a 1.1 million-barrel-a-day tar sands crude pipeline through the City of Ottawa. This comes just a few days ahead of our Eco Gala on October 9th (tickets available here) and the "Community Consultation" TransCanada is holding about the pipeline in Stittsville on October 10th.
The Rally itself will be a combination of a march, a flotilla, and a rally. What does that mean? Some of us will gather at Vincent Massey Park at 930am, to begin marching beside the Rideau River towards City Hall. Some of us will gather very close by at Brewer Park to put canoes and kayaks in the water, and paddle down the Rideau River to Riverain Park, then continue the portage/rally to City Hall.
Everyone is then invited to partake in a rally in front of City Hall that will then start at 1pm.
At the rally, we will be having a number of guest speakers, local singers and bands performing (including the first public performance of a Tar Free 613 song), and will be delivering the petition that many Ottawans have signed, to local elected officials. It will be a lot of fun, so please come out!

You can help make the Tar Free 613 an even bigger success by joining the weekly teams that will go out to neighbourhoods door-to-door with either petitions or flyers, to get the word out about the proposed pipeline and help mobilize residents across the city. We will also be hosting weekly sessions on Wednesdays where we will be able to do an introduction to the Tar Free 613 campaign, how to do petitions, have some food, then get a chance to go out in a small group and have fun doing it! Lastly, please keep October 10th in your calendars. That's the day after our EcoGala, and the day TransCanada hosts their community consultation. It will be in Stittsville, from 4-8pm, 10 Warner Colpitts Lane. We'd like for as many people as possible to be there to show TransCanada just how much we value our waterways, our farmland, our health and our safety over their pipeline.
