March 11th, 2017 (Ottawa) - The First United Church 347 Richmond Road in Ottawa was humming and singing in solidarity with the Algonguins of Barriere Lake. The meal and fundraiser was to  inform the public regarding their 20+ year struggle to resist mining exploration and build a sustainable way of life.

A meal, entertainment by the Barriere Lake Youth drummers and info talks about the struggle with mining exploration took place at the packed house at First United supported by many local groups including Mining Watch Canada. It was reported that close to $6000 was raised to help defer mounting court costs.  

Now, Copper One, a company financed and directed by the Forbes Manhattan Group, has staked claims on some of ABL's lands (the Riviere Dore mining prospect) for copper mining. The company is pressing for permission from the Quebec government to clear access roads and do exploratory drilling. The drilling is polluting and if enough copper and other minerals are found for a mine, there would be devastating disruption of the land and water in a large area.
