The Fair Elections Act?

April 4, 2014

The current government continues to chip away at many of the democratic principles we have come to enjoy. Too few people are showing their concern with this trend.

Sheila Fraser, former Auditor General of Canada, has now joined a long list of respected people to point out the dangers in the proposed legislation. In her opinion, the Fair Elections Act will disenfranchise thousands of voters, undercut the independence of the chief electoral watchdog, impede investigations into wrongdoing, and give a financial advantage to rich, established parties.

Minister Poilievre wants us to believe it is all about catching people who are illegally voting. But it is about so much more. Fair Elections Act – talk about an oxymoron.
