The Kanata Chamber of Commerce's mission is to help create a positive business environment and contribute to the success of the Kanata, Goulbourn & West Carleton business community by providing leadership, representation, information and networking opportunities.
On September 26, 1980 at the request of Michael Cowpland the one year old Nepean Chamber of Commerce was changed to the Nepean-Kanata Chamber of Commerce. This Chamber operated for a period of eight years. In October 1988 the Board of Directors decided to create a separate and distinctive Kanata chamber as a division of the NKCC (a Nepean chamber division was also formed at that time). As Kanata continued to grow as a vibrant city, it became more and more evident that the importance of a completely independent Chamber of Commerce in the city of Kanata was needed. On January 1, 1991 the Kanata Chamber of Commerce separated from the NKCC and became a separate legal entity. Subsequently, on January 24, 1991, the Kanata Business Association (KBA) voted to dissolve and merge with the Kanata Chamber. The amalgamation of these two organizations ensured that Kanata businesses would be represented by one strong and united voice dedicated to addressing the concerns of local businesses and the growth of Kanata both commercially and socially.
In July 2005 the Kanata Chamber of Commerce reached out to expand their geographical area to serve the business communities of Goulbourn and West Carleton and today we are closing in on 400 members.
