The community power sector is tapping into the power of people to advance renewable energy across Ontario. Through community co-operatives, we bring together average Ontarians to invest in large renewable power systems, from rooftop solar to a biogas operation powered by “zoo poo.”
Our projects generate clean emissions free electricity while keeping investment dollars in our communities. Members earn a reasonable rate of return on their investment while everyone from local businesses to schools benefits from lease payments for roof space and other services. (In Ottawa, for example, a local school board will be paid $140,000 for the use of roof space over the next 20 years).
Community power works because we work with the community to design and locate renewable energy projects, the projects are owned by community members, and because we have developed a cost-effective project development model for increasing generation of clean emissions free power.
