After months of dialogue Down Under, kids under the age of sixteen are now banned from operating social media accounts in Australia. The country’s Prime Minister is labeling the act as a benchmark moment. There has been a growing movement here in Canada to install similar practices, and we’ve mentioned it a few times on this program already. In Hour 2, we circle back to this debate with Unplugged Canada founder Jenny Perez. I have a decades-old memory of me swaying to music in a 1970s-style shopping mall and being sharply reprimanded by my mother, who felt that a Black person dancing in public was undignified and reinforced racist stereotypes.
