A Canadian goalie in Davos

January 24, 2026
Mark Carney wearing goalie equipment in his youth

A poem about Mark Carney in Davos…

Armed with a thick skin and a quick wit,

The old goalie steps up to the podium.

His eyes locked and brows furled.

He’s been here before.

Facing down bullies isn’t new.

He’s been doing it all his life.

But this time is different,

His mask is off.

The room quiets.

World and business leaders sit side-by-side.

Ladies and Gentlemen, he begins.

The words echo through the hall:

Rupture.

Sovereignty.

Security.

New. World. Order.

The old goalie has chosen his words skillfully.

But, he’s said the quiet part out loud:

The old order is dead.

Middle powers unite!

The audience erupts.

It’s game time now.

The ice has been cleared.

It’s time to drop the puck.
