Make a difference where you live. Become a Waste Reduction Champion.
The City is launching a new Waste Reduction Champion Program to support waste reduction, recycling, and composting in apartments and condos.
If you live in a multi-unit condo, townhome complex or apartment building and are passionate about making a difference where you live, then your community needs you!
As a volunteer Waste Reduction Champion, you will inspire and support your neighbours to reduce waste, improve recycling and composting habits, and enhance the natural environment around your home. This could include activities like:
- Promoting recycling and composting in your building through newsletters, social media, posters or setting up a booth in the lobby
- Organizing events such as litter clean ups, swap events or garage sales
- Setting up collection bins for batteries or textiles
- Working with your property manager to improve signage or bin placement
- Anything else you think might work! Champions are welcome to get creative.
You don’t need to be an expert on waste reduction, just someone who cares. The City will provide full training, tools and ongoing program support. As a Champion, you will join a network of residents across Ottawa working to make a difference. By becoming a Champion, you’re not just helping your neighbours. You are building a stronger, more connected community. Your efforts will contribute to a cleaner city, reduced landfill waste and a more vibrant place for everyone.
